When Crocodile Dundee II came out, viewers knew what to expect and what we got wasn’t quite as good. This is still an entertaining movie, especially in the second half when they arrive in Australia. But this feels more like an action/adventure film than a comedy, which is a little disappointing. Paul Hogan is still very likeable as Mick Dundee, though, and it’s his subdued charisma that really props up this sequel. Maybe it’s just because I used to watch it as a kid, but I like Crocodile Dundee II. Where the first movie is more or less a rom com, about a neglected, rejected fish-out-of-water character, the sequel finds its titular character taking on the role of action star (a fact addressed in the third movie during a meta-analysis of Hollywood and the need to change character motivations). Overall, this movie feels wildly out of place, especially during the first half, that feels uninspired, forced and poorly conceived. It isn't until the second half of the movie, when it returns to what made the first movie so great, that the sequel actually has any entertainment value. CDII takes up where the 1st one left off, Mick (Dundee) and his lady are living the good life in NY, when an ex-bf of her's gets assassinated because of photos he took of his killers doing a drug deal, they begin looking for the film that has those pictures.. Well wouldnt you know it, those pics were mailed to NYC! So CD and GF need to hide out and they go back to Australia. Story up to this point is fun, but when it gets to Australia, it definitely slows down a lot of notches when CD takes on the drug lords in the outback.
